Golf Course Superintendent
Bushwood Golf Club is hiring a Golf Superintendent for the upcoming 2024 golf season. We are conveniently located 30 minutes North of Toronto in Markham. At Bushwood, we provide an entertaining golf experience for every level of golfer and occasion. We have two very unique courses for golfers to enjoy; an 18 hole Championship course par 72 and a 9 hole Executive course par 30, grass tee driving range and short-game practice area.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills who takes pride in their work.
Expected responsibilities:
- Being an effective role model, communicator and leader who will set a positive example to all employees and guests.
- Supervising, leading and assisting in all maintenance programs and day to day turf operations.
- Mentoring and supervising the training of new and returning staff on job functions as well as the care and safety of all maintenance equipment
- Assisting in the recruitment of new employees
- Frequent communication with management and ownership to discuss plans, customer feedback, events.
- Management of all playing areas: tees, greens, fairways, rough, hole locations, marker placement, sand traps, cart paths and way finding.
- Supervising turf irrigation, water usage and irrigation maintenance for golf course and including grass, trees and plants. Ability to trouble shoot Toro irrigation system challenges.
- Supervising and participation in the application and usage of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers as well as developing an annual plan for chemical and fertilizing use.
- Proper record keeping and logs for water usage, fertilization and chemical applications to assist annual filing of the IPM report.
- Scheduling, payroll administration and budgeting
- Manage winter maintenance of machines and property
- Promoting a strong culture of health and safety within the workplace
- Performing other duties as required.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience at a golf course facility or similar property.
- Turf Management Diploma or equivalent
- Must hold a valid Ontario Landscape Pesticide Application License
- IPM Certification & Accreditation
- First Aid/CPR
- Experience with Toro irrigation systems an asset.
- Knowledge of expense management and budgeting.
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
The total package will be a minimum of $70k per year.
