The Thornhill Club is currently seeking a Head Golf Course Superintendent, as Mr. Greg McFarlane is retiring after a tremendous 18 years as the Head Golf Course Superintendent and 30 plus years with the Club. The Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation, and management of the Golf Courses (18 hole Championship Golf Course and 9 hole Valley Golf Course). This person should be a proven leader in the industry who will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the operating/capital budgets, development, and implementation of agronomic plans, as well as hiring, training and supervision of the turf facilities team among other tasks as necessary, all while being constantly focused on providing high-quality playing conditions.
This is a salaried year-round management position. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with all Club managers and various club committees. The selected individual will join our team and play a major role in enhancing our Club, its staff and its excellent reputation. The individual should be positive, self-motivated, hardworking, team oriented and possess a keen eye for detail.
Qualifications:
· Degree or Diploma in Turf Management from a recognized College or University
· Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or proven leadership experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
· Valid Ontario Landscape Exterminator License
· IPM Certified Agent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved with high efficiency
· Ensure all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards are being followed including equipment, buildings and uniforms.
· Supervise and lead in all course construction projects
· Develop and implement programs: including fertility, IPM, plant protection, and cultural practices, all within a busy event schedule.
· Management of employment activities for golf course maintenance team members, including recruitment, selection, training and performance evaluations.
· Reporting to and working with the Chief Operating Officer, Head Professional, and Greens Committee with updates on all golf course matters.
· Working with regulatory agencies to foster strong relationships and ensure the club is compliant with all policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
· Prepare annual budget for Golf Course Operations.
· Participates in Long-range planning meetings in which the course, equipment, and facilities are discussed.
