About Us

Legacy Ridge Golf Club was formerly known as the Owen Sound Golf & Country Club, established in 1920, and now we’ve continued to serve the Owen Sound golf community for over 100 years.

The Par-71, 18-hole course spans more than 6,300 yards. It was designed by famed golf course architect Stanley Thompson & Associates, and it accomplishes the difficult task of appealing to golfers of all skill levels.

The layout forces serious players to push their skills while the scenic vistas from atop the Georgian Cliffs and giving newcomers breath-taking, relaxing views from Owen Sound.

The consistent, challenging and absolutely gorgeous play of Legacy Ridge brings in golfers from across Ontario. From Toronto, Barrie, to Guelph/Kitchener-Waterloo, to Wiarton, Sauble Beach, Collingwood and Saugeen Shores – we’re a short drive to one of the best courses in and around Southern Georgian Bay!

At this time, we are seeking a passionate individual to fill the role of Assistant Superintendent, a full-time position on the Turf Management Team here at Legacy Ridge.

You will work as valued support for our “Super Mark” - Superintendent Mark Hagedorn and his crew. This position also carries the opportunity and privilege to potentially be Mark’s successor in the not-too-distant future.

 

 Job Summary

As a member of the turf management team, the duties of the role include:

  • Work closely with the superintendent to plan and carry out daily maintenance practices
  • Training and supervision of a staff of up to 20 seasonal employees
  • Make recommendations on agronomic decisions such as cultural practices, fertility, plant protection, and irrigation
  • Play a key role in upcoming projects, including in-house renovations
  • Regular record keeping of various operational aspects
  • Ensuring safety standards within the department, including participation in the club’s Health and Safety Committee
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays when or as needed

  • Knowledge of irrigation practices, system troubleshooting and repair
  • Experience with chemical and fertilizer applications, as well as IPM principles such as scouting and record keeping
  • Familiarity with methods of golf course construction and machine operation
  • Able to set up cutting units as needed

 

 Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in turfgrass management from a recognized institution. Candidates who have completed the Turf Managers’ Short Course will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in golf course maintenance or a related field; management experience is considered an asset
  • Ontario Landscape Exterminator’s License or willingness to acquire
  • IPM certification or willingness to acquire
  • Chainsaw experience and certification are assets
  • Ability to lift minimum 50 lbs. unassisted

Compensation

The position is a full-time salaried position with a compensation package including:

  • $55,000 - $60,000, based on experience (44 weeks)
  • 8-weeks vacation (approx. Dec 15 – Feb 15)
