Position Overview

About Highland Country Club
Established in 1922, Highland Country Club is a distinguished private club situated in London, Ontario. The Club is home to an 18-hole championship golf course masterfully designed by the iconic Stanley
Thompson. Over the decades, Highland has proudly hosted a range of prestigious tournaments, including the Ontario Amateur, PGA of Canada Club Professionals Championship, Ontario Ladies Amateur, and the Freedom 55 Financial Championship, reinforcing its reputation as a premier venue for competitive golf.
Numerous upgrades to the golf course have been made in recent years (bunker renovation, tee levelling projects, continued drainage projects). The club is also in the planning stages of a new, state of the art maintenance facility, offering an exciting opportunity for the next Golf Course Superintendent to play a key role in its design and implementation.
Primary Focus
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Golf Course Superintendent serves as a vital member of the Senior Management Team and holds full responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of all golf course maintenance and grounds functions. This role demands a forward-thinking professional with a commitment to excellence and innovation in turf management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing team dedicated to turf care and equipment management.
- Design, schedule, and implement agronomic programs that consistently deliver championship- level playing conditions.
- Oversee all cultural practices, including integrated pest and disease management, irrigation systems, drainage solutions, and overall turf health.
- Develop, present, and manage comprehensive annual operating and capital budgets with fiscal discipline and strategic foresight.
- Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and Golf Course Conditioning and Standards Committee to align long-term capital planning with daily operational needs.
- Supervise the upkeep of all club grounds, including gardens, walkways, and on-course infrastructure to ensure aesthetic and functional excellence.
- Enforce robust health and safety protocols, including staff training, PPE compliance, and incident response procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with provincial legislation and environmental regulations.
- Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance decision-making, optimize resource allocation, and drive operational efficiency.
- Embody and promote the core values of Highland: professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Winter property maintenance as the club is a 12 month operation with a full curling facility.
Key Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Turfgrass Management or a closely related discipline.
- 3–5 years of progressive experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Proven track record of leading high-performing teams and consistently delivering superior course conditioning.
- In-depth understanding of private club operations and a dedication to creating exceptional member experiences.
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, and environmental stewardship.
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience in developing and managing both operational and capital budgets.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Possession of all required certifications and licenses, including:
- Ontario Pesticide Applicator’s License
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Certification
- Chainsaw Operator Certification
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract
