We are seeking a driven and dedicated Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our progressive and high-performing turf team.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and working closely with the Senior Assistant, the Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a critical role in the daily operation of the Turf Department. This role supports all facets of course maintenance, team leadership, agronomic programs, and health & safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example with professionalism, strong work ethic, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Take ownership of daily tasks and projects; ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to BGC’s conditioning standards.
  • Enforce club policies, procedures, and environmental stewardship practices.
  • Execute and oversee precise pesticide and fertilizer applications, including calibration, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote and uphold a strong health & safety culture; ensure staff operate equipment correctly and follow all safety protocols.
  • Assist with staff supervision, performance coaching, and corrective action when required.
  • Deliver hands-on training and development for all team members, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Contribute positively to team morale by recognizing accomplishments and fostering an environment of pride, respect, and accountability.
  • Support the Superintendent and Senior Assistant with irrigation management, cultural practices, project execution, and course setup.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive turf or golf course maintenance experience, including exposure to supervisory responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with strong delegation, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Solid planning and organizational capabilities; able to execute projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong problem-solving instincts with the ability to generate practical, creative solutions.
  • Relevant turf and pesticide certifications/licences (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, conflict resolution, and team mentorship.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

Work Conditions

  • Full-time, year-round salaried position.
  • Requires availability for early mornings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal overtime.
