In 2026, the club will embark on an extensive multi-year full bunker renovation project. Doug Carrick will lead the renovation design with Flightline Golf Inc. as the lead contractor. The bunker renovation will incorporate the Better Billy Bunker drainage system along with Pro Angle Bunker Sand.
DETAILED POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Jr. Assistant Superintendent role is essential to the day-to-day operations of the Magna Golf Club Maintenance department.
MGC offers the opportunity to be involved in a fast-paced advanced technology agronomic program. Our forward-thinking program includes the use of many biologicals, turf stimulants and alternative plant health products in maintaining our golf course with the goal of promoting desirable turf species.
In this position, you will be involved in all aspects of turf management practices with the goal of providing consistent tournament conditions every day of our six-month season. Magna offers a state-of-the-art Maintenance facility with all the modern well-maintained equipment required to achieve these goals.
All Maintenance employees are required to complete a comprehensive training and orientation process to ensure their safety. We provide a positive and supportive atmosphere, where individuals can succeed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Assistant Superintendents on day-to-day operations
- Learn, understand and assist with turfgrass, pesticide, fertilization and irrigation technologies, products and programs as well as agronomic programs and requirements
- Assist with staff management, scheduling, training, and meetings when required
- Involvement in the 2026 bunker renovation project when required
- Sand trap maintenance and repair when required
- Greens maintenance including repairs and overseeding as required
- Utility vehicle operation on the course
- Mower, dump trailer and/or other light equipment operation as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ability to begin work in the early morning and to work alternate weekends (4 hours/day on weekends)
IPM Strategies:
- Integration into making applications and understanding of strategies
- Support in acquiring IPM certification and Landscape Exterminator License if needed
Additional Responsibilities may Include:
- Small project management and team leading
- Construction project work
- Bunker reconstructing, draining installation, irrigation repair and auditing
Desired Skills:
- Currently completing a recognized related course / program or recently graduated from a recognized related course / program
- Ontario Landscape Exterminators license and Ontario IPM agent accreditation an asset
- Proficient with various computer applications and programs
- Prior golf course or sports turf experience preferred
- Willingness to learn and expand your current skill set, with the eventual goal of promotion to Assistant Superintendent
- Strong work ethic and punctuality a must
- Valid driver’s license
