Position Overview
As a senior member of the Course & Grounds team, the Irrigation Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvement of the golf course irrigation system. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate water distribution, system efficiency, and consistent turf performance across all playing surfaces. Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent, the Irrigation Technician will support daily course preparation, conduct regular system inspections and audits, and assist with long-term irrigation infrastructure planning and upgrades. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented turf professional with a strong work ethic, a desire to develop advanced irrigation skills, and an interest in building a long-term career in the golf industry.
Requirements
- Graduate of a post-secondary Turfgrass Management program or equivalent education/certification in a related field (or currently working toward)
- Interest in irrigation systems and a desire to develop technical skills related to pumps, hydraulics, and electrical components
- 1–3 years of experience in golf course maintenance or a related field (irrigation experience considered an asset, not a requirement)
- Ability to safely operate golf course maintenance equipment or willingness to learn
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
- Positive, motivated, and professional attitude with a strong work ethic
- Experience with Toro Lynx irrigation software considered an asset
- Valid provincial driver’s license
General Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation system components, including heads, valves, pumps, controllers, and wiring.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of the pumphouse while collaborating with management on daily and long-term hydration needs.
- Conduct irrigation audits to evaluate efficiency and ensure accurate water distribution across all playing surfaces.
- Maintain detailed records to support agronomic and irrigation decision-making.
- Train, mentor, and lead staff members on proper irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance techniques.
- Ensure safe operation and care of equipment, providing hands-on instruction when necessary.
- Promote a collaborative and professional team environment while demonstrating a personal commitment to excellence.
- Play a leadership role in daily course maintenance activities and serve as a role model for junior staff.
