Golf Course Superintendent

Wooden Sticks Golf Club is a high-end daily fee public/resort facility situated in Uxbridge, Ontario, approximately 45 minutes northeast of Toronto. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that 8 of the 18 holes are inspired by famous golf landscapes from around the world, notably St. Andrews, Sawgrass, and Augusta. Annually, Wooden Sticks hosts 30,000 rounds from 20,000 unique visitors. Our play is comprised of daily fee golfers, golf groups, Stay & Play groups, and corporate events.

Scott Clayworth – Superintendent Retiring After 24 Years at Wooden Sticks

Position Summary

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for overall turfgrass health and consistent playing conditions for all levels of golfers. The Superintendent must be a great leader, a respected member of the management team, and have a strong understanding of the business side of turf maintenance at the club.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee all aspects of day-to-day golf course maintenance
  • Responsible for providing excellent playing conditions on a daily basis
  • Manage seasonal fertilization and pesticide applications to ensure turf health
  • Responsible for environmental compliance, including handling and storage of all pesticide inventories
  • Responsible for the upkeep and operation of the irrigation systems
  • Ensure the club is compliant and up to date with all provincial and federal regulated requirements, including Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Responsible for annual department training manuals and the supervision and training of seasonal staff
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and inventories
  • Communicate regularly with Pro Staff and Management regarding daily course conditions
  • Responsible for maintaining an understanding of turfgrass product knowledge
  • Responsible for clubhouse landscaping and winter snow removal
  • Responsible for researching annual golf course capital expenditure projects

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass management and golf course maintenance practices
  • Proven leadership and staff management abilities
  • Valid Ontario Landscape Pesticide Application Licence (required)
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Certification and Accreditation (required)
  • Turf management education, certification, or professional association membership is considered an asset

Compensation

  • Total annual compensation range: $130,000 to $150,000, based on experience
  • Compensation package includes a combination of base salary, health and dental allowances, professional support, and a performance-based bonus structure
