The Club:
Big Cedar Point Golf & Country Club (“The Club”), founded in 1931, occupies approximately 17 hectares of land south-west of Big Cedar Point, on Lake Simcoe. The Club is noted for its scenic location, its proximity to local summer residences and its historical connections with the area.
Big Cedar’s top quality, semi-private 9-hole course is consistently recognized as one of the finest in the region. Designed to challenge skilled players while remaining enjoyable for all levels, the course showcases immaculate fairways and greens, and natural beauty that reflects the surrounding landscape. The Club is committed to ongoing investments in course conditioning, environmental stewardship, and capital improvements that preserve its reputation as a top playing venue.
The Position:
We're looking to hire a golf course Superintendent for the 2026 season, to work under the retiring Superintendent who is under contract for 2026. Full duties of the superintendent would be assumed in 2027.
The Golf Course Superintendent, reporting to the General Manager/The Board of Directors, is responsible for and entrusted with the successful operation and management of the Golf Course Maintenance department, and overseeing the grounds maintenance around the Clubhouse, including parking lots, winter snow removal.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide oversight and management of the entire 17 hectares of ground.
- Member of The Club’s Management team, working collaboratively with peers to increase membership experience
- Provide agronomic direction to always deliver exceptional experience by following best practices for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses, trees, and other applicable plant materials.
- Developing and implementing programs for turf/grass, material and chemical maintenance and asset management.
- Establishing good working relationships with regulatory bodies; TRCA, MOE, Urban Forestry, etc.
- Preparing an annual budget and long-term forecast for achieving financial goals through proper forecasting, expense controls and labour management.
- Motivating and developing staff.
- Communicating with members and keeping them informed about current and future maintenance activities.
- Responsible for developing and implementing annual and long-term plans for the maintenance of the golf course.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek a motivated, knowledgeable team player with strong communication, people and organizational skills. Required qualifications include:
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy & turf grass management including a college or university diploma or degree in Turf Management I Superintendent Designation I IPM Certified and valid pesticide license(s).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in management roles at a golf property.
- Knowledge of current local, provincial and federal laws and regulations affecting golf course operations.
- History of providing a safe working environment with an emphasis on meeting all regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of golf facilities construction/redesign/upgrades principles and methods.
- Knowledge of irrigation & drainage systems and water requirements.
- Experience using systematic approaches to data collection and analysis.
- Experience in a work culture that emphasizes personal responsibility, accountability and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated team player who can foster relationships with members, guests, and management peers and staff members.
- Ability to craft presentations and to deliver to the Board/members, committees and staff.
- Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- A record of success with regulatory bodies; TRCA, MOE, Urban Forestry, etc.
- Ability to mentor course staff.
- Financial management experience of the operational and capital golf course budgets.
- A history of delivering high quality golf course conditions and providing outstanding service to the membership
