About The Iron 

This project is in development to become one of the premier 18-hole tournament-caliber golf courses located in Sudbury, Ontario, the hub of Northern Ontario. Currently under active construction, the course is being built entirely in house, providing direct involvement in shaping, infrastructure installation, irrigation, drainage, and turf establishment. The focus is on precision construction and sound agronomic practices that will support long-term performance sustainability. 

Designed to championship standards, the course emphasizes strategic playability, elite conditioning and resilient systems capable of hosting competitive events. As the project transitions from construction to grow-in and opening, the long-term vision is to establish a flagship Northern Ontario facility with the ability to host high-level provincial, national and international tournaments while delivering a consistent, world-class playing experience for all golfers. 

Position Summary 

The Golf Course Superintendent at The Iron Golf Club is responsible for leading all aspects of golf course agronomy, grow-in, conditioning, and long-term turf performance.  This role oversees daily maintenance operations, irrigation management, equipment management, and team leadership to ensure the course consistently reflects championship standards.

As The Iron transitions from construction to grow-in and eventual opening, the Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in establishing agronomic systems, building a high-performance maintenance team, and setting the foundation for elite, tournament-caliber conditions.

This position requires technical expertise, strategic planning ability, strong leadership presence, and an uncompromising commitment to detail.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead golf course construction, shaping, drainage, irrigation, and grow-in 
  • Operate and maintain construction and turf equipment 
  • Lead daily course maintenance operations including mowing, fertility, pest management, and cultural practices
  • Establish conditioning standards consistent with tournament-level play
  • Monitor course conditions and contribute to planning improvements 
  • Ensure safety procedures and equipment standards are followed 
  • Transition from construction focus into long-term course maintenance operations for the right candidate 
  • Collaborate with ownership, course designer and leadership to align course presentation with The Iron’s premium brand standards.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong agronomic background and turf management expertise
  • Equipment operation experience considered an asset 
  • Experience in course construction, grow-in, or major renovations considered a strong asset
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for course presentation
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized turf equipment 
  • Leadership ability and strong communication skills
  • Passion for golf course development and outdoor craftsmanship 
  • Valid driver’s license required 
  • Formal turfgrass education is an asset but not required
