The Toronto Golf Club is seeking a talented, experienced career minded Golf Course Mechanic/Equipment Manager for a championship level operation.
THE TORONTO GOLF CLUB was established in 1876 and is the third oldest golf club in North America. Originally located on the Fernhill property in Toronto, the Club moved to its current location on the banks of the Etobicoke River in 1911. The purchase of the new property was completed early that year, and, at the same time, the well-known English golf architect, H.S. Colt, was brought from England to design the new course. The Colt Course was ready for play in the autumn of 1912. In 1919, the Club purchased additional land to the north, and on this was constructed a new nine-hole course (Watson Course) which was ready for play in 1921.
The Toronto Golf Club has hosted the Canadian Open five times; twice at its old location in 1905 and again in 1909, and three times at its current location (1914, 1921 and 1927). The Toronto Golf Club has hosted the Canadian Amateur Championship nine times, more than any other club.

The Golf Course Mechanic/Equipment Manager will join as an integral member of our Golf Course Operations Management Team.
The Golf Course Mechanic/Equipment Manager reports to the Manager of Golf Course Operations and Assistant Mangers of Golf Course Operations, oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for a large, updated equipment inventory.
The Club employs an Assistant Mechanic who manages the sharpening of all reels.
This year-round position will be responsible for:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work
- Establish a SOP program so equipment care is reflective of course care.
- Work with the assistant equipment mechanic, the senior management team to achieve course excellence through commitment and dedication
- Set mowers for high quality of cut on daily basis.
- Service preventative maintenance as per OEM recommendations
- Help train staff in the safe and efficient use of golf course maintenance equipment within Club SOP guidelines
- Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment
- Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services of equipment prior to use
- Oversees the shop area maintenance in accordance with MOEE and MOL guidelines
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-years of equipment technician experience within the golf industry
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and on-board computer systems in a timely manner
- Ability to move heavy objects - must be able to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to fabricate necessary items (tools, parts, etc.) for equipment and equipment maneuverability
- Ability to set mowers for high quality of cut and determine appropriate repair
- Ability to maintain an extensive fleet of equipment to perform at optimum level
The Toronto Golf Club has begun the design phase of a new Operations Centre. The Club has retained Architect firm Rogers McCagg of NY, to help guide the Club to build a new state of art facility. The Golf Course Mechanic/Equipment Manager will have the opportunity to provide key input on the successful design and implementation of the new facility.
