Golf Course Superintendent

The Goderich Sunset Golf Club has been proudly serving its customers for more than 50 years.  Featuring numerous strategically placed sand traps and narrow tree-lined fairways, the Goderich Sunset Golf Club was designed to test players of all skill levels.  Water comes into play on 13 holes further adding to the challenge.  In addition to the well-conditioned golf course, it is the friendly service that makes the Goderich Sunset a pleasant golf outing to all.

In addition to the course, we have a fully irrigated 9 Hole Par 3 Course with holes from 86 to 213 yards as well as a fantastic practice facility featuring a full driving range, putting/chipping green with sand bunker.

Job Summary

This is a key position within the Golf Course Maintenance Department. Works directly with the General Manager to help develop a daily work schedule and coordinate the related activities and necessary equipment with the staff. Training, supervision and reviewing of golf course employees along with supervision of construction projects and specific maintenance activities on the golf course and club grounds, fall under the Superintendent’s duties.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, cost control and personnel.
  • Plan, schedule and monitor all daily operations including insuring adequate staffing schedules for daily needs.
  • Establish, promote and enforcing safety practices in accordance with regulations.
  • Oversees the cleanliness of the golf course and club grounds.
  • Stays in constant contact with the Owners regarding controlling the budget.
  • Record keeping for supplies, daily logs, application records, weather condition records and personnel records.
  • Is capable in using the proper application of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Always communicates in a totally professional manner including to subordinates, management, other staff on property, suppliers, as well as members and other guests and potential guests.
  • Competent to operate computerized and manual irrigation control system.
  • Performs tasks that are necessary to keep maintenance facility and equipment clean, organized and safe on a daily basis.
  • Performs all functions and routine golf course maintenance activities.
  • Ensures that personal protective equipment is worn as prescribed and required.
  • Perform basic irrigation head repairs, if necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 1 Years as a Golf Course Superintendent or 2-3 Years as a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
  • Possession of a current provincial pesticide applicator license.
  • IPM Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Possession of an Ontario pesticide applicator license.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and apply proper safety protocol.
  • Ability to assign and direct work to assigned associates.
  • Experience with the operation and programming of a manual and automated irrigation system.
  • Ability to identify turf and other plant variations.
  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance practices along with proper use of various fertilizers, herbicides and pest control methods and materials.
